How long should my dissertation be?

There is no standard word count for dissertations, and several academic institutions and disciplines have recommended word counts.

• An undergraduate research report ranges from 9,000 to 16,000 words
• Dissertation at master’s level can be 15,000 to 50,000 words
• A PhD dissertation is lengthy and ranges from 60,000 to 100,000 words

Always consult your university’s library guide and seek your professor's advice to set your dissertation's length.
