Do not pick a journal randomly or based on a quick Google search. Look for journals in your subject area, read their aims and scope, and check their submission policies. Some journals explicitly state they accept work based on a dissertation.

Step 2: Identify a Publishable Slice

Take one core finding, one research question, or one theoretical contribution. Do not try to compress your entire dissertation into one paper. Ask yourself: what is the single most valuable contribution of my work?

Step 3: Rewrite and Restructure

Your journal article needs to be concise and focused. You will likely need to:

• Rewrite the introduction in journal tone
• Convert your chapters into IMRaD format (Introduction, Methods, Results, and Discussion)
