How to Write a Graphic Design Dissertation Sample

Here's a detailed guide on how to write a graphic design dissertation;

1. Introduction

Introduce your topic and provide a brief overview of your topic in graphic design. Explain its needs, preferences, and behaviours and why it is crucial in creating effective graphic design products and services. The introduction typically begins with a general statement or background information related to the topic. Next, the research question or problem statement is introduced, along with the objectives and goals of the study. This helps to establish the scope of the graphic design thesis research and provides a clear direction for the reader.

2. Literature Review

A literature review is a critical analysis of previously published academic literature on a specific topic. It involves identifying, evaluating, and synthesizing existing research to gain a deeper understanding of the subject matter.

To conduct a literature review in a graphic design dissertation,  identify key terms or concepts related to the subject matter. Next, it should search academic databases and other relevant sources for published research and literature related to the topic.

3. Research Methodology

The best research methodology for a graphic design dissertation depends on the specific research question or topic being explored. Common research methodologies in graphic design thesis include qualitative research, such as case studies or interviews, and quantitative research, such as surveys or experiments.

A mixed-methods approach that combines both qualitative and quantitative research can also be effective. The chosen methodology should align with the research question and allow for the collection and analysis of relevant data. It is important to consider the limitations and strengths of each methodology and select the approach that best suits the research objectives. Ultimately, the methodology chosen should be appropriate, rigorous, and ethical in order to ensure valid and reliable results.

4. Data Collection

Data collection for a graphic design dissertation can be done using various methods depending on the research question and methodology. Primary data can be collected through methods such as surveys, interviews, observations, and experiments.

Secondary data can be collected from existing sources such as academic literature, industry reports, and design archives. Overall, the data collection methods chosen for a graphic design dissertation should align with the research question and methodology and should be ethical, valid, and reliable.

5. Data Analysis

Provide a clear and detailed description of the data analysis process, including any software or tools used, coding procedures, and thematic analysis. Present the findings from your data analysis in a clear and organised manner, using visuals such as charts or tables to support your findings.

6. Results and Discussion

Present and discuss the results of your data analysis about your research objectives and research questions. Interpret the findings, highlight any patterns or trends, and discuss the implications of your results in the graphic design thesis.

7. Conclusion

Summarise the key findings of your topic and their implications. Discuss the limitations of your research and suggest areas for future research. Provide a conclusive statement that reinforces the importance of the topic and its potential impact on improving graphic design products and services.

By following this guide, you can conduct rigorous research that sheds light on how to create a more effective graphic design thesis that meets your needs and preferences.  Remember to stay focused on your research objectives, use evidence-based findings to support your arguments, and contribute to the advancement of knowledge in the field of graphic design.

Graphic Design Dissertation Sample: A Case Study

Topic: Mobile Application Development Processes: Challenges and Best Practices

Abstract

Although the market for mobile devices has expanded quickly, there are still few research projects focused on the process of developing mobile applications. The purpose of this study is to gain a better understanding of the existing approaches and difficulties encountered in the creation of mobile applications. To strengthen, evaluate, and upgrade the process' effectiveness, it also checks for optimal methods.

Introduction

The article seeks to provide readers with a greater knowledge of the development of mobile applications process currently used by mobile developers all around the world, as well as the different problems and difficulties it presents. The following three questions were sought out of the mobile devices research and development community via an online survey:

1) What are the current methods used for developing mobile applications?

2) What problems and difficulties come up in building mobile applications?

 3) What are the most effective methods that different companies have implemented and recommended to lessen the difficulties that may arise during the early stages of development?

Literature Review

The process through which apps are created for small, low-power handheld devices is known as mobile application development (MAD). Hardware, software, and communication are the three areas into which the major traits and capabilities that set a mobile version apart from a traditional desktop app can be divided. The fundamental issues with mobile computing, including shape factors & input from user's technology, ergonomics & interaction between user's design, and choice of implementation technology, have only recently been identified and published. Research Approach

To get useful information about the methods used in mobile application development, a study survey was carried out. Based on the literature that was at the time, a survey was designed and then reviewed by subject-matter experts. During the time the data was being collected, more than 130 replies were received. With genuine experience in developing mobile apps, 69% of respondents are from the mobile industry, with the majority hailing within North America and representing 25% of the organisation size. Participants who are developers typically have experience in communication, utilities, and education-related mobile development areas.

Findings

According to the research’s findings, 22% of respondents started working on mobile applications to expand their businesses. Medium-sized development teams made up 41% of participants, and 57 per cent of developers said it takes 6–18 weeks to create a mobile app. 74% of the respondents test mobile apps within 1-2 weeks before the production release and 97% test apps before they are released. Four main stages make up the cell phone software engineering process, which has been acknowledged by mobile specialists as a successful method for creating mobile applications.

Discussion

According to the study, small teams, short development cycles, constantly changing requirements, continuous integration, and continuous delivery processes make agile practices the most effective for creating mobile applications. Because of their small teams, quick development cycles, adaptability to constantly changing requirements, continuous integration, and continuous delivery processes, agile approaches have been said to be the most effective for creating mobile applications. Agile approaches are among the finest practices to follow in the process of developing mobile software, according to earlier research studies.

Conclusion and Future Work

An unbiased overview of the difficulties that confront mobile application developers is provided by this study. It implies that best practices can be applied to reduce the problems identified and improve the functionality of mobile apps. The document provides an overview and a guide for future studies on mobile app development. To examine the proposed approach and validate best practices, more research is required.
